There has been something pressing on my mind lately. Something that I am sure is pressing on your mind as well. Las Vegas.
I understand that I have no real right to talk on this subject. I have no personal affiliation to the atrocity that happened except for the fact that it happened in my country. The greatest massacre on U.S. soil to date. But I won't spend my time detailing that which everyone already knows. This blog is simply a place for me to write out my thoughts in a therapeutic way and if you want to listen or respond, feel free.
Here is what has been on my heart- how much hate there is right now. The shooting in Las Vegas was atrocious. It caused so much hurt and pain: physically, emotionally, mentally. My heart is broken for the victims and their families. Our nation has a right to be completely broken and angry as a result. Anger is a completely logical reaction to pain. However, what I am seeing is anger at the wrong people. I am seeing anger at each other instead of support. I am seeing a nation divided.
We are all trying to provide remedies to prevent this from happening in the future. But we are focusing on the wrong enemies. We are attacking each other when we should be offering support. Support to each other. What if we stopped trying to fix the problem for just two seconds and supported the families. All of us.
I hate it when I come home with a problem and all my husband tries to do is fix it. Sometimes I simply need him to validate how I feel. I am not suggesting a parallel in situations by any means. What I am suggesting is that we stop fighting over things like gun laws for long enough to validate those grieving.
My problem is that I log onto Facebook, MSN, and the like and see hate being pointed at each other. It frustrates me that the blame is being pointed at each other when what should be offered is support.
I am not pretending to be an expert on this. My heart simply hurts when I see people aching for support and not getting it in return.
What if we could bear each other's burdens? We would live in harmony. That's what would happen.
The ONLY way this will happen is by the grace of God. If as a nation we unify. One Nation Under God- indivisible.
Ephesians 2:14- "For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility".
